There are 34 incorporated municipalities in Orange County, which itself sits within the LA-Long Beach-Anaheim Metro Statistical Area. Anaheim was the first of these cities to be incorporated back in 1870, while Aliso Viejo was the most recent. Though many U.S. population centers are characterized by their proximity to a major city, Orange County has no such specific center. Most of the county is suburban in nature, with the exception of certain parts of older localities such as Santa Ana, Anaheim, Fullerton and Huntington Beach. However, there are a few developments with an urban feel cropping up, including Newport Center, South Coast Metro, and Irvine Business Center.
